KWAZULU NATAL

The Kingdom of the Zulu - has it all. Bordered by the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains in the west and the warm Indian Ocean in the east this province has a diversity of cultures and history. Many of the South African War battles between 'Boer' and the English were fought in what has now become known as 'The Battlefields Route' and is is often visited by decendants of those who fought there. In addition it is the home of the proud Zulu nation. The magnificent beaches offer bathers and fishermen alike the very best with swimming all year round. The game reserves of St Lucia (a bird lover's paradise with its rich wetlands), Htluhluwe/Umfolozi (where white rhinos were saved from extinction) and Itala (a sanctuary for white and black rhino, elephant, buffalo, cheetah and leopard) are amongst the best in the country. Its major city, Durban, is a colorful place where a mosaic of different cultures cohabits in harmony. Durban is the busiest port in South Africa and Kwazulu-Natal is the second largest contributor to South Africa's GDP.
